Mahatat for contemporary art

Founded in 2011 and based in Cairo, Mahatat for contemporary art is a creative enterprise for art in public space, community art and capacity building for emerging artists and emerging art operators. Mahatat's main goals are to support the accessibility of arts and decentralization within the artistic and cultural field in Egypt. Since 2012 Mahatat has staged different artistic interventions in public space in Cairo, Alexandria, Damietta, Mansoura, and Port Said and implemented workshops and lectures in Egypt and abroad.

Robin Schwartzman & Tom Loftus

Minneapolis-based mini golf connoisseurs Robin Schwartzman and Tom Loftus met because of their love for art and community and they bonded over their love for miniature golf. The pair has played more than four dozen courses around the United States since then, reviewing each on their blog, A Couple of Putts; but their passion for the game comes through in a more creative form with their designs for the 2013 and 2014 Walker Art Center’s artist-designed mini golf course.

Jim Le Fevre

Jim Le Fevre is a BAFTA and British Animation Award winning filmmaker, who has directed numerous commercials and idents for well-known brands including Sky, Nickelodeon, and Rowntrees. On the flip side to his commercial work, he also explores physical animation techniques and has pioneered a contemporary reworking of the Zoetrope using a record player and a modern camera.

Pamela Reed and Matthew Rader are a creative digital artist duo that is known for creating fun fashion animated gifs/videos and building virtual worlds. They have received worldwide press on their work and have exhibited in multiple countries.

Julien Breton aka Kaalam

Julien Breton aka Kaalam discovered contemporary arabic calligraphy 15 years ago. Unable to read or write in Arabic, he started to developed his own latin alphabet inspired by Arabic aesthetic with the aim to build a bridge between East and West. Julien’s work explores the space between calligraphy, dance, music, typography and architecture.

Leen Sadder is a Lebanese designer based in New York. She has a BFA in Graphic Design from the American University of Beirut and a Masters in Design Entrepreneurship from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Leen is currently designing digital solutions at Huge Inc., and working on launching her startup THIS Toothbrush.

Ailadi Cortelletti

14:40 / Tuesday 10 MarchAiladi is a multidisciplinary designer involved in different projects ranging from UI design, to illustration, to visualization and design research. On her personal projects she uses drawing as a tool to explore the context where she lives, document thoughts and collaborate with other people. She exhibited in Italy, China, Germany, Thailand and USA. After her Master degree she worked at Id-Lab and Frog in Milan and Shanghai where is currently based.

After graduating in 'Computer Science and Music Technology' in Milan he started collaborations with international companies such as Todo, HowDo, Accurat, Eyebeam Art + Technology center for the Arts, Interaction Design Lab, Nokia, and taught classes at Milan Polytechnic University, NABA and Domus Academy amongst others.

Tegan Bristow

Tegan Bristow is lecturer and head of the Interactive Digital Media program at the Digital Arts Division of the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. In addition, Bristow is an artist and developer of interactive digital installations. Bristow is currently writing her PhD on Technology Arts and Culture Practices in Africa with the Planetary Collegium at Plymouth University in the UK.

Simone Rebaudengo is an interaction designer living in Shanghai and working for Frog during the day and torturing many objects at night. In his work he tries to build futures that are not lean-white-perfect-glass, but something that looks like the messy present but with some unexpected glitches in them.
